Beaches & Nature

The beauty of Nuweiba is the quiet and relatively empty beaches. Tourists head to Nuweiba’s coastal camps and hotels to enjoy a no-frills holiday with a laid-back itinerary. If you’re looking for something more active than relaxing on the beach, diving and snorkeling are the main attraction here, along with kayaking on calm waters.

Many of the camps along the coast offer a back-to-basics holiday, with straw huts that sit directly on the beach. While the huts don’t have electricity, modern communal facilities are available. Backpackers and campers can set up their own tents on the beach and enjoy kitchen facilities to make simple meals. Generators power electricity to the main dining areas during the day and early evening, allowing guests to charge their devices.

Sunbathing & Diving

Kick back in a hammock with a good book and swing into ultimate relaxation, because Nuweiba is one the most secluded and chill spots in Egypt. The calm waters offer the perfect place to learn how to scuba dive.

Ras Shitan

one of Nuweiba’s best known sites for chilling and diving. Explore a reef plateau covered with an incredible variety of hard corals and an underwater canyon with awe-inspiring scenery. The “Japanese garden” is a patch of vibrant table corals with brightly colored fish darting in and out.

Notable Ruins

Just outside Nuweiba’s port is a small, fortified castle called Nuweiba Castle built in 1893 on Tarabin Beach to maintain the security of the city and surroundings. The structure is surrounded by a thick wall with narrow openings at the top for archers to defend the castle. A courtyard with a well is also well-preserved.

Al-Tarabin Castle

Named in honor of the prominent Bedouin inhabiting this area, was built by the Mamluk Sultan Ashraf al-Ghuri in the 16th century to protect the region from invaders and give shelter and respite for travelers and pilgrims passing through. The castle was never completed but remained an important spot for Bedouins to retrieve drinking water.
