Water Sports & Sailing Flat
There is an abundant amount of water-based fun happening off Soma Bay’s shoreline. If you’ve had enough beach relaxation, give some of them a try. There are also some excellent diving sites, and wind conditions make it a great spot to learn windsurfing, kiting, paddle boarding, and sailing.
Diving & Snorkeling
The bay’s clear, calm waters support excellent visibility for divers and snorkelers to explore gorgeous, healthy coral reef. The jetty extends directly out to the house reef, leading to a large lagoon and sheltered area ideal for scuba students. Dive excursions allow access to sites full of coral gardens, reef walls, and drop-offs suitable for all levels of experience.
On the eastern coastline, Soma Bay's House Reef extends for several kilometers from Shaab Saiman to Ras Abou Soma and is brimming with lush marine life, including napoleon fish, lionfish, moray eels, and eagle rays. A few meters from the tip of the peninsula lie the Tubya Arbaa and Gamul Saghira reefs, monumental column-like reefs stretching upward and covered in vibrant corals. Many of the dive sites have caverns homing huge schools of glass fish, along with anthias, seahorses, frogfish, and the odd turtle or reef shark.
Kiting & Windsurfing
Glide on the smooth and shallow turquoise waters and catch wind throughout the year! Cruise, jump, or surf the calm waters of Soma Bay’s Lagoon set against a magnificent landscape. Advanced kiters and windsurfers can practice tricks further out with stronger winds and a slight swell perfect for jumps.
Sailing
With crystal-clear blue waters, it’s hard to resist the urge to set sail and head out to sea! Catamaran and laser boat sailing are popular options at Soma Bay, with guests chartering private boat trips to discover the surrounding area and cool off in deeper waters. Instructors are also on hand to teach you how to handle the sails and take command of a vessel.
