The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is hosting workshops at several Egyptian museums on the history of the Suez Canal on its 153rd inauguration anniversary. This artificial sea-level waterway, officially completed in 1869 by the French Consul Ferdinand de Lesseps, runs from north to south across the isthmus of Suez, connecting the Mediterranean and the Red Seas and acting as the most important trade route between Europe and Asia.
In addition to workshops, the Suez National Museum will be hosting a one-of-a-kind exhibition showcasing the history of the canal. The event takes place on the anniversary of the inauguration of the Suez Canal: 17 November 2022.
