Visit Matruh’s Classic Beaches

Spend the day relaxing on one of the classic Mediterranean beaches made famous through Egyptian cinema

Agiba

The most iconic of Marsa Matruh’s beaches is Agiba, with its picturesque cove nestled between two white cliffs. For a panoramic view of the crystal-clear waters in this pristine stretch of the Mediterranean, climb up the cliffs with a cool drink and get lost gazing at the gentle waves. When you’re done climbing and swimming, make sure to check out Agiba’s caves.

Al-Gharam Beach

Feeling nostalgic? Visit Al-Gharam Beach—which means “Lover’s Beach” in Arabic—Marsa Matruh’s longest stretch of beach known to Egyptians as the spot where beloved Egyptian actress, Leila Mourad, sang in the 1950’s classic, Shati al-Gharam. This popular beach is perfect for sunset walks.

Rommel Beach

Bring your cooler, snacks, and sun hat and take a paddleboat ride to tour the Rommel Beach, named after the famous German WWII Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, “The Desert Fox”, who was headquartered in the nearby caves. History buffs will also want to visit the Rommel Museum, located inside the caves, where some of Rommel’s personal items—including maps, photographs, and weapons—are put on display.

Cleopatra’s Beach

Make your way to Cleopatra’s Beach and find the long glass passage that takes you over the rocky shoreline directly to the famous rock formation. As the waves fill the interior, sheltered rock bed and as sunlight tunnels in through a natural skylight, you can float in the saltwater pool.
