Bani Suef
Currently an important manufacturing hub for Egypt, this area was home to the city of Herakleopolis, a well-known site from the early Dynastic period through to Roman times. It served as the capital of Lower and Middle Egypt during the 9th and 10th Dynasties. Bani Suef later maintained its importance as a major town in Upper Egypt during the reign of Muhammad Ali in the 19th century.
