Egypt’s Exclusive Beaches & Beach Activities
Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline is 1,050 km long, running from the city of Alexandria in the east all the way to Marsa Matruh in the west, making it one of the longest Mediterranean coastlines in North Africa. In between these two cities, you can find the smaller towns of Sidi Abdel Rahman, Al-Alamein, and Ras al-Hekma, all of which have year-round resident populations. In the summer months, however, the action takes place in the upscale beach resorts that have been developed in and around these towns. Most North Coast beaches are private, so you will need to be a resident, hotel guest, or renter in one of the beach compounds or hotels in order to access the beach. Make sure you book early because prime locations fill up early in the summer months.
What to Expect?
Sahel beaches are different from the beaches on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. You’ll find the same stunning shade of blue water, but in Sahel, the waves are higher, the sand is whiter, and the vegetation is lusher because of winter’s heavy rains. Most beaches don’t start to fill up until late afternoon, so if you are an early riser, you can beat the crowds and have a few hours of serenity watching the waves crash into the shoreline. With large areas of soft white sand and rolling waves, Egypt’s Mediterranean beaches are perfect for taking leisurely strolls, building sandcastles, kayaking, surfing, or hours of swimming.
